Barnegat Inlet Field Trip this Saturday!

Before I begin this entry, I wanted to thank everyone again for a wonderful weekend at the Frost Valley YMCA! This past weekend's trip was certainly one for the ages, and we will post a field trip report of the weekend on here shortly.

This Saturday we will be making our yearly adventure to Barnegat Inlet and Brigantine Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge with our friends in the Delaware Valley Ornithological Committee (DVOC.) Participants need to bring a lunch and a water bottle. Please dress for cold and wet conditions! YESC has limited binoculars to lend.

This trip has been a great YESC tradition for at least the last eight years, and these expert birders have treated us to some real birding treats such as Peregrine Falcon, Short-Eared Owl, Ipswitch Sparrow, Harlequin Duck, and countless other species of waterfowl. We begin our trip heading out onto "Shaky Ted's Jetty" in search of waterfowl.

  1. I almost stepped on a purple sand piper... they are deliciously small and i sometimes wonder how Mr.Audubon used to kill them because if he use a shotgun on a bird that small the only thing left would be feathers...mmmmm i bet it tasted sandy...
